Todd Howard emphasized the Fallout show’s meticulous attention to detail, revealing that the production went to extraordinary lengths, including using original game files for 3D printing props.

Known for its meticulous world-building in games like Tamriel and the Wasteland, Bethesda ensured that the Fallout series sets matched the intricate detail fans expect. Howard shared his awe during an interview with Kinda Funny, describing his surreal experience visiting the Amazon series’ set. He initially expected more movie magic but was impressed by the authenticity, particularly the meticulously crafted Vaults.

“They built this two-story Vault, with real lights—no fake stuff,” Howard marveled. He praised production designer Howard Cummings for faithfully translating every detail, even using files directly from Bethesda’s games for 3D printing props. The dedication to authenticity was such that the set designers apologized when they couldn’t replicate a hallway’s scale exactly as seen in the games.

Howard highlighted a visit to a Vault Overseer’s office as a standout moment, noting the inclusion of detailed paperwork that added to the immersive atmosphere. “They had all the papers, even a note to the Overseer,” he recalled, emphasizing the authenticity down to the minutest details like power reports and food supplies.

The attention extended to smaller details too, like a Wasteland dentist’s office filled with unsettling props such as realistic, decayed teeth in a bucket of assorted items. This commitment to detail was appreciated by the Fallout cast as well, including Ella Purnell, who plays Lucy MacLean, praising how the props enhanced their performances by providing realistic elements to react to.

Howard credited the series’ respect for Fallout’s legacy to the entire Bethesda team, past and present, and acknowledged the contributions of Obsidian Entertainment and other developers integral to the franchise’s success. His remarks underscored his role as a steward of the series, emphasizing that the show’s fidelity to Fallout was a testament to the collective effort of many individuals across different studios.

Overall, Howard’s account highlighted how the Fallout show’s dedication to detail enhances its authenticity, resonating with fans of the beloved game series.
