The crowdfunding platform Kickstarter has launched a campaign for SwitchLens — a modular camera attachment for smartphones. This gadget combines advanced features of traditional cameras, including support for interchangeable lenses, with the portability and capabilities of smartphones.
SwitchLens is a full-fledged M43 (Micro Four Thirds) format camera. The accessory is compatible with iPhones with MagSafe, Android smartphones with Qi2 support, or smartphones in cases with magnetic mounts. Connection between devices is achieved via Wi-Fi.
Inside SwitchLens, a large 1.33-inch CMOS sensor is used, significantly larger than those found in most modern smartphones. The universal mount allows for the use of various lenses from Panasonic, Olympus, and other manufacturers. The smartphone acts as the viewfinder. Using the dedicated app, users can adjust ISO from 100 to 12,800, shutter speed from 10 seconds to 1/8,000 seconds, and white balance from 2600 to 8600 K.
The camera can also be used independently from the smartphone, utilizing it as a remote viewfinder and shutter release button, enabling users to take self-portraits. SwitchLens is equipped with a rechargeable 14500 (AA) lithium-ion battery.
With SwitchLens, you can capture photos in RAW or JPG format with a resolution of 5592×3710 pixels and record videos in 4K @ 60 fps. All captured content can be stored on a memory card up to 1.5 TB or transferred to the smartphone.
During the crowdfunding phase, SwitchLens is available for $199, with a post-launch price set at $329. Deliveries are scheduled for November 2024.
This innovative gadget promises to enhance photography capabilities, appealing particularly to photography enthusiasts in the USA and around the world.
