SpaceX is gearing up to send billionaire Jared Isaacman on a spacewalk in the coming weeks. The Polaris Dawn mission is scheduled for August 19. Elon Musk’s company will undertake its longest mission to date, sending a crew beyond the International Space Station.
The mission will utilize the Falcon 9 rocket. Isaacman will be the first space tourist to venture into open space. Initially set for July, the launch was postponed due to logistical issues and a rocket explosion earlier in the month.
This is not Isaacman’s first flight with SpaceX; he completed an orbital flight in 2021. However, this isn’t the first delay for the Polaris Dawn mission. Once launched, the crew will travel beyond the ISS.
Participants of Polaris Dawn will orbit further from Earth than any previous mission, marking it as the longest and potentially most historic endeavor in SpaceX’s history and the aerospace industry.
