Samsung Patents Accordion-Style Tablet with Expandable Screen

A recently surfaced patent application by Samsung details a tablet design featuring a telescopic body and an extendable display. The illustrations within the document reveal the internal structure of the gadget, while the text explains its operational mechanism.

The information about Samsung’s development was shared by the Panently Apple portal, citing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The patent describes a tablet with a sliding screen that is intended to expand and contract horizontally: the display extends sideways as the tablet’s body moves left and right.

To achieve this, Samsung might incorporate a “guiding unit” within the body. This unit would retract part of the flexible screen into the casing and release it according to the current settings. The patent also provides a schematic showing the device’s operation, which involves a system of gears, a drive block, and guiding components. A similar concept was previously implemented by OPPO in the X 2021 smartphone. The release date for Samsung’s new tablet remains unknown.
