Microsoft continues its efforts against local accounts on computers running Windows 11. While users can still utilize them, developers are diligently removing mentions of this option from official documentation.
Currently, the setup guide on the software maker’s website only includes information on transitioning from a local account to a Microsoft account. Meanwhile, according to data from the Wayback Machine, instructions for reverting this action were removed on June 17, 2024.
However, the company has retained information on the benefits of a Microsoft account on the guide page. These include enhanced security features, data synchronization across multiple devices, and account recovery without a password reset disk.
Windows 11 still supports local accounts, but Microsoft has deliberately made their setup more complex by removing this option from the installer. Users encountering issues can refer to alternative solutions provided in the guide.
