Users have noticed that the Copilot button on their PCs merely launches a PWA (Progressive Web App) version of a website. And that’s it. The functionality of the AI assistant is essentially reduced to the bare minimum.
The integration of the assistant within Windows is nonexistent. You can’t even launch “Settings,” something that was possible a year ago. Additionally, basic Winkey combinations are missing. Pressing the new button serves no purpose since the app icon is conveniently placed on the taskbar.
What’s most puzzling is that Microsoft hasn’t explained why a product that was supposed to be a cornerstone of Windows has been downgraded to a clunky PWA. Developers claim in their blog that this regression (or rather degradation) will allow them to “more flexibly develop and optimize Copilot” and that users will eventually gain more features.
For American readers, this turn of events is particularly baffling, as it highlights a significant step back for a tech giant known for its innovative strides.
