Micron has announced the development of its proprietary SSD technology featuring the PCIe 6.0 interface. The company has revealed preliminary speed test results and outlined the intended applications for these new drives.
According to Micron, the next-generation SSDs offer sequential read speeds exceeding 26 GB/s—an 85% improvement over the flagship NVMe drives of the Micron 9550 series. Additionally, the new SSDs consume 43% less power compared to competing models from other brands (specific examples not provided).
This technology is primarily aimed at commercial use in data centers. It is expected to help manage the increased workload associated with AI-based services. The technology may also be incorporated into consumer SSDs in the future. More details will be disclosed during the Future of Memory and Storage conference, which concludes on August 8.
