Following rumors of canceling the Vision Pro 2 headset, news has surfaced about Apple’s plans to release lightweight and compact AR glasses. Analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported this in his latest update, also providing approximate release timelines for the future product.
Citing sources within Apple, Gurman stated that the gadget is still in its early development stages, with the company allegedly not expecting the glasses to be ready “for several years.” It is anticipated that the AR glasses will perform some functions of a smartphone, though many capabilities of mixed reality devices may not be accessible.
A typical device in this category is the XREAL Air 2 Ultra, capable of playing spatial videos and working in conjunction with PCs and smartphones, but not creating virtual worlds like the Apple Vision Pro. Details regarding the features and specifications of Apple’s upcoming AR glasses have not yet been disclosed.
Similar rumors emerged back in 2019, suggesting Apple’s intention to release AR glasses by 2023, which were later supplanted by the Vision Pro headset. Now, rumors indicate that work on the AR gadget has resumed. Apple itself has not provided any official comments on these developments.
