The California-based robotics company Figure has introduced the second generation of its humanoid robot. Initially designed for use on production lines, these robots are expected to be available for general consumers in the future, enabling their use in everyday life.
Figure’s engineers have completely overhauled both the hardware and software of the robot, enhancing AI systems, computer vision, battery life, electronics, sensors, and other components. The battery capacity has been increased by a substantial 50%.
The new Figure 02 model features microphones and speakers for engaging in dialogue with humans. For the upgrade of its speech model, Figure collaborated with OpenAI. Additionally, six built-in RGB cameras help the robot better understand and interact with its environment.
The Figure 02 is equipped with more powerful processors, boosting its computational capabilities and allowing it to perform complex tasks autonomously. The robot’s appearance has also been refined with fabric coverings and concealed wiring.
These robots have already undergone training at BMW’s manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and continue to “evolve” at this site, gathering data and learning new tasks. Figure aims to develop fully functional android assistants in the future, enhancing the quality of human life.
