Ilya Sutskever, one of the founders of OpenAI, has announced the creation of his own startup named Safe Superintelligence (SSI). The primary priorities of SSI will be developing a safe yet powerful artificial intelligence.
Sutskever emphasized that unlike IT giants such as Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, SSI will not face commercial pressures or the need to churn out products for the sake of it. This will allow them to focus on incrementally scaling technologies while maintaining the highest standards of safety.
Ilya Sutskever left OpenAI in May of this year due to disagreements with CEO Sam Altman. Alongside him, co-founders of SSI include Daniel Gross, former head of AI at Apple, and Daniel Levy, previously a technical staffer at OpenAI.
SSI currently has no plans for partnerships. Sutskever noted that the sole product of his company will be “safe superintelligence.”
