Apple has released Final Cut Camera for iPhone and iPad.

Alongside a major update to the editing software Final Cut Pro in the App Store, Apple introduced the companion app Final Cut Camera. This app is designed for the new Live Multicam feature, which synchronizes shooting of a single scene simultaneously from four different perspectives using iPhones and iPads. Additionally, Final Cut Camera can be used as a standalone tool.

What does this new app offer compared to the standard “Camera”? Now users can manually adjust settings such as white balance, ISO, focal length, lock the shooting format (portrait or landscape), and select the desired codec without needing to navigate through the Settings. Conveniently, the estimated recording time for video at the chosen settings is displayed on the main screen. It’s worth noting that using the app noticeably warms up the smartphone, even when used with a case.

The standout feature is Live Multicam, allowing simultaneous filming from four angles. It’s important to note that all devices used for filming must be signed in with the same Apple ID and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enabled. Overall, professionals needing such capabilities are unlikely to purchase four iPhones and iPads just for filming and editing in this manner. Also, Final Cut Pro for iPad requires a paid subscription, which is not available for purchase in Russia, making it irrelevant for users there.

Is Apple’s solution better than Blackmagic Camera? Certainly not. The latter offers far more settings and delivers superior final video quality.

The app runs on iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later.
